This is a custom-built Illinois Central SD40-2 #6127 in their Deathstar paint with the Operation Lifesaver logo. This unit started out as an older run Athearn SD40-2, and from there I completely cut off the cab, nose, and sub-base and replaced them with Cannon parts. The front and rear anticlimbers, turbocharger stack, internal air filter hatch and rooftop access doors (over the prime mover) are all Cannon parts as well. The radiator fans are now see through parts from Details Associates. A Details west plow, bell, rear pilot buffer plate, horn, and firecracker radio antenna have been installed. All of the grab irons, and lift rings are by Details Associates. Finally, the cab has brass A-Line sunshades on it.
The model has a standard Athearn SD40-2 drive on it, although I have replaced the Athearn air tanks with much better looking parts from Details West. The frame and truck sideframes have all been painted flat black. Although they're not on in the pic here, the model will have Kadee couplers installed on it when you purchase it.
I have painted this into IC's black Deathstar paint scheme with the Operation Lifesaver logo. These units were bought from the Burlington Northern in the early 1990's, and quickly repainted into this scheme. Most of these units live on today on the Canadian National roster and roam across the US and Canada.
