Up for auction today is an amazing David Thomas McNaught Signature Phoenix (#31) from David's first run of guitars. This was from before he even had Dave Mansel doing the finishes for him, meaning he was pouring his heart into each and every guitar from start to finish. As perhaps the most highly respected boutique builder in the world, David's early guitars have become increasingly more valuable and collectible, and this is literally the 31st guitar he ever built.
From the initial run of Signature Phoenix's (NOT to be confused with the phoenix's that he is putting out now with the newer, non-vintage headstock), this guitar features all of David's early innovations, including the elongated headstock, NO Neck Heel, Maple-bound Ebony Fretboard, Master grade Quilt Maple top, Custom wound Dimarzio humbuckers, graphite saddles on his high-mass tremolo bridge for ultimate sustain, DIRECT-MOUNTED pickups (A McNaught Staple that allows for the maximum amount of sustain by having the pickups directly mounted - no springs - to the long-tenon neck), and wood control and trem cavity covers. The guitar has a 5-way switch, with coil taps on positions 2 and 4, and the guitar has no weak positions. Also, there are no uncharacteristic volume drops in the tapped positions.
This guitar is more than comparable to PRS Private Stock guitars in terms of care put into building and the sound and look of the guitar, and nothing from Gibson, Fender, McInturff, Driskill (No offense to Joe, his guitars are beautiful, but the early McNaughts far surpass his consistency and quality), or any other builder, most of whom I've owned. I've been privy to owning and selling over 400 guitars in my life and this one has stayed in the stable for a while... Think about that...
Guitars like this do NOT come up on eBay very often, due to their value, and believe me, this one wouldn't be up here if I didn't just buy a new computer for my resale business and need to offset the costs... I will be listing a lot of high end gear including a Taylor Custom Shop 914ce, Event ASP8 monitors, a Suhr Badger combo amp, and lots of other goodies to offset other costs, so please check my other auctions!!
I will NOT respond to low-ball trade offers, but PLEASE SEND YOUR QUESTIONS, and make me an offer for this piece!! Good Luck!!
