DAYSTAR Wood Crochet Hook: ~Winter Swirling~ ORNATE K+

Blizzarding breezes blow and blow, bringing snow upon snowy dale, hills where once was flat, a sea of pristine dunes, drifts drifting over the prairie. But soon, then, a stop to the whirling winds, a cessation of blusteriness, a silent, a still. Stars peek from behind the clouds, emerging, pulling back that billowing blanket, souls and souls with sparkling eyes peer forth at the whitened wonderland.

This hook was inspired by the blizzard conditions we experienced a couple of weeks ago in Wyoming, where my studio is. We had crazy winds and wild snow coming down for three days, dropping feet of snow on us! Of course, I love snow, but this was just a little much... still, it provided a atmosphere for curling up next to a warm stove, cradling cups of cocoa, and reminiscing about life.

I began this hook with brilliant white Holly, which turns sooooo beautifully! The grain is super fine, and finishes to be satiny smooth. I then decided to ornament it with a little carving, which I painted in metallic acrylics -- swirling winds with snowflakes/stars all around! I used various blues, whites, and silver to add visual texture to the piece.

Of course, this ornamentation does have a little texture to it, so I made sure to put it far enough to the top of the hook that it won't rub your hand whether you use the "knife" or "pencil" hold. This piece is engraved with my signature/artist's mark, and is part of my Signature Ornate Hook Series... and for extra entertainment, you get to play hide-and-seek with my signature! My snowflake symbol is mixed among the other snowflakes on the hook :-) Size K+ (7.5 mm), eight and one-eighth inches long. Heirloom quality.
