One of my special custom colors, "Watermelon" Dyed Hardwood is the piquant white rindy bit that you just have to nibble into to savor one last taste of exquisite sweet redness, tiny black seeds that hide within the spongy goodness, and the unmistakable green and green striped roundness of the whole. Reminiscent of summer, the heat of the day, the warm sunlight filtering through trees in the yard.
I hand-turned this hair pin from dyed and laminated hardwood that's been impregnated with resin and densified, thus made extremely strong and durable, and also resistant to temperature variations and moisture. Smooth as glass!
Total length is five and five-eighths inches; length below ornamentation: four and one-half inches. Widest top diameter: 14 mm. The photo shows two sides of the same hair pin. Heirloom quality.
Please see my web site and blog for more about my work and inspiration. (They are both linked from my About Me page.)
** About Daystar Custom Colors: Not the standard composites, I have specially ordered these color combinations directly from the manufacturer of Dymondwood (TM). The color choices are derived from my own desire to create beautiful colorways in the same way I would with my fiber arts projects. I've never seen the combinations online or anywhere else for that matter -- they've all come from my own heart and mind, and I hope you enjoy them!
All of my items are tested for durability and strength. They're not simply ornamental -- they are fully functional tools and ornaments created with the finest materials and techniques in order for you to have a tool that is both beautiful and works comfortably and efficiently at the same time... just as it should.
I've been a fiber artist for over twenty-five years, and now use my experience to design one-of-a-kind items: from the tools of the trade (crochet hooks, knitting needles, spinning tools, etc.) to items of personal adornment such as hairpins, jewelry, and much more!
There is a wonderful joy to owning and using finely crafted wooden items: they're smooth, warm, and have the potential to become cherished heirlooms. Every Daystar design is gently enveloped in an exclusively designed fabric pouch, and comes with a gift card. My work is 100% guaranteed. Please see my web site for a Care & Use Guide as well as other information. (The link to my site is on my About Me Page).
Each item is a unique work of art handcrafted by Katherine Kowalski, Professional Woodturning Artist, Master Fiber Artist, and author. Please see my web page for more information.
