A rare collectible 40's-50's lucite plastic column novelty lamp in vg condition.17 high to top of socket.8 wide base.4 inch wide discs above. photos are of the lamp as found -uncleaned  -in an antique store- will be cleaned up-all the dark specks will float off-will be much brighter.this is the type lamp many collectors are looking for-beautiful vintage new type plastic lamps - introducing the plastic to the country as its usefulness widens. lucite or plexiglass has fiber optics properties , is very strong ,scratch resistant, can be poured into any shape and have high strength impact properties.crystal clear it gained wide use as windows where flexing was a problems.thicker pieces for burglary proof windows-can't be fractured by a hammer.may crack but holds together.boat safety glass.almost anything structural, it has been experimented with.can be colored looking exactly like stained glass.over time handled ruffly the surface will have a fine haze after years of using it like glass-not being careful in cleaning it.glass is far harder,steel can't scratch glass-but plexiglass can be scratched by steel wool,tools,abrasive items.---this lamp has most sections free from that haze. the photos are color correct and reveal the clarity of the plastic still. some minor scratching but not enough to take away from the designed look.perfectly symmetrical,vertical.the light on top needs a cone shade.bright white to reflect the light downward.wattage will affect the brightness.base has lucite cylinder short legs.wiring is vg.the top socket one may want to change.getting worn but still sound and safe electrically.a stunning lamp -like a prop from a 50's space ship film.if one experiments a little the brightness can be enhanced -like a cut to order mirror placed in the back held by a low table bracket would reflect light into the lamp-rare-.bidding starts at 175.00,15.00shipping,ins -ups only worldwide shipping -send postal code for exact quote.
