Description:

Since the Beginning of Time the forces of Order and Chaos have been engaged in an eternal struggle to decide the fate of all Creation. That struggle has now come to the Mortal Realm... In the Diablo II Expansion Set, you will return to follow the path of Baal, the last of the Prime Evils, into the Barbarian Highlands of the north. Traveling with hordes of demonic minions, Baal intends to corrupt the powerful Worldstone that protects the whole of the mortal plane from the forces of Hell. You will face a new series of quests and challenges to prevent the vile minions of the underworld from destroying the world of Sanctuary.

New Characters:

• Assassin -- The Order of Mage Slayers was formed after the Vizjerei survived the tragedy brought on by Bartuc and Horazon. Their purpose was to watch for rogue magi that may become corrupted by the forces of Evil. To be effective at this task they were trained in abilities that were not conducive to Demonic corruption. Living as rumor and myth to the general population, even other magi knew very little about this mysterious order. Their reputation was shrouded in mystery and the simple fear of their retribution almost ensured steadfast vigilance against corruption amongst those who knew they were real.
  
  Assassins do not employ the magical arts directly; rather, they use enchanted items that mimic elemental powers and can be used autonomously. To further avoid potential corruption, they focus on the natural abilities of the mortal body - powers of the mind and unarmed combat.  

• Druid -- The Druids who inhabit the northern forests of Scosglen developed their magicindependently from the eastern mage clans. They served as the warrior-kings of their tribes, usually living apart from their people in massive stone towers that were covered with vines and ivy. As masters of the natural world, they were able to control living creatures and the very forces of nature.
  
  Perhaps the most notable power of these Druids is their ability to change their form into that of an animal. Because of this ability, the tribes under their rule knew that they could be watched at any time. The sight of what was thought to be a common beast transforming into a vengeful Druid kept many a potential uprising in check.
  
  The Druid controls both Elemental and Prime magic. His Elemental powers give him control over fire, earth and the winds. His Primal bond with nature allows him to command many beasts and plants, summoning hawks, wolves, vines, and even natural spirits to do his bidding. He can also change his own shape into creatures such as a huge cave bear, or a dire wolf, and then use these forms to call upon further powers.

• Minotaur Demon -- Minotaur Demons are raging uncontrollable brutes and have the freedom to act independently from the other demonic troops on the battlefield. They are strictly melee fighters, but their devastating blows inflict both normal and magic damage.
  
• Overseer -- Overseers are the large, brutish leaders of the Minions. Their main weapon is a barbed whip that they can use on their troops, throwing their subordinates into a bloodlust -- or even causing the minion to mutate its form and charge against the nearest opponent. Once a mutated Minion has reached its target, the Minion dies in a horrid explosion, causing massive damage to its target. The Overseer can also create a healing vortex that seeks out damaged Minions, allowing them to regain lost life.
  
• Reanimated Horde -- This dark army is comprised of slain human warriors that have been raised from the dead to serve Baal. Larger in size andmore aggressive than most skeletons and zombies, these un-living nightmares are capable of lunging from a distance to slaughter their prey.
  
• Suicide Minion -- The newest monsters created by Baal to serve in his army of Destruction, they are stealthy, quick-footed and unusually tough for their size. Bony knobs protrude from their thick hides, giving them added protection against melee weapons.
