So your McIntosh stereo isn't up to snuff eh? Well, that is serious business. After all, the whole point of having such a nice stereo is to be able to use it and to enjoy the great performance that made McIntosh famous. Since I see a lot of these, I can tell you that the service needs of various models usually fit into a pattern. Given enough time, they often fail in predictable ways. So I see the same jobs over and over again. The trick to successful restoration of older stereos is to know what they usually do, and to be very thorough in rooting the problems out. I can tell you that the track record for older McIntosh's being brought back to good performance and reliability is pretty good. It is rare that they are all blown up, or not worth the necessary service. A diagnostic at the beginning of the service process can be very useful. You want the pleasure of knowing what you are getting yourself into before you are up to your neck in it. There are certain situations that are perfect for a complete diagnostic. Obviously when the unit has an overt failure, you must proceed to do something about it, and a complete assessment of the immediate problem plus any side issues can tell you what your options are. Or perhaps you just bought the unit and you wish to make sure that the seller represented it honestly. With a diagnostic, you get a complete report that sellers are very hard put to argue with. Perhaps your unit has been stored for a long time, and you want to be sure that it is ok before use. Or maybe you have some combination of reasons, and you just want the thing to perform as it was designed to perform. Finally, some folks have a model number for which I do not have a listing for complete restoration, and doing a diagnostic is an easy way to keep your transaction in the context of eBay. In all of these cases, a diagnostic will serve you well. So this is how it works. You purchase the diagnostic here on eBay. When the purchase shows up in my inbox, I will send you the ship-to address. Packing is very critical. I can tell you exactly how to do it so your unit will arrive in good shape. After the unit has arrived, and made its way to the head of the line, I will check it thoroughly and call you to explain precisely what is needed to restore your unit as closely as possible to original performance and reliability. After your approval, I will then create a new eBay listing just for you and put it on my eBay store. This listing will be called "SERVICE BALANCE". It will include the balance of the service costs after this diagnostic charge has been rolled in, and the cost of return shipping. I will contact you with the item number of your balance listing. Then you purchase the service balance listing, I complete the unit and return it to you. So there you have it. This is a foolproof way to find out what your McIntosh is doing to you, and to get the right service done and keep it all under the eBay umbrella. Since a better deal is not to be had, I shall be pleased to help you with your McIntosh. Thanks, Bill |
