CALIFORNIA PLEIN AIR OIL |
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Dick Crispo, born in New York City on January 13, 1945, has resided on the Monterey Peninsula since 1955. An award winning artist, Crispo has studied at the Carmel Art Institute under John Cunningham and Sam Colburn. He has also studied at the Monterey Peninsula College, Hartnell College in Salinas, and the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Dick Crispo is the co-author of the new publication....Carmel Art Association: Its Legends and Legacies, 1927-2007.
Known for his almost abstract like figurative work, and Monterey Peninsula landscapes and seascapes, Crispo has also produced over 60 murals throughout the United States. He paints both indoors, and in plein air, yet he does not consider himself purely a plein air painter. Crispo has been an instructor at the Carmel Adult School and regularly holds workshops and instructional sessions in conjunction with the Carmel Art Association.
Crispo has been an artist member of the Carmel Art Association since 1969 and has served on it's Board of Directors, and as it's President. He is also a member of the Artist's Equity, Art Workers United, and the Monterey Peninsula Art Foundation.
His works have been exhibited in one man shows at the Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art (1997), Oakland Museum of Art, Harrison Memorial Library in Carmel, Print Club of Philadelphia, Museum of Western Art in Tokyo, and the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, and the Carmel Art Association.
Crispo is listed in Davenport; The Artist's Bluebook (Dunbier); Who's Who In American Art, 2004 (McGowan); The Biographical Encyclopedia of American Painters, Sculptors & Engravers (Crebs); The California Art Review (Krantz); Carmel Art Association: Today (Donovan); Carmel Art Association: A History (Hoag McGlynn); Art & Artists of the Monterey Peninsula (Harbick); Yesterday's Artists on the Monterey Peninsula (Spangenberg); Carmel Art Association, 75th Anniversary Exhibit Catalog; and Carmel Art Association: Its Legends and Legacies, 1927-2007 (Crispo & Watson).
ABOUT THIS PAINTING
This wonderful plein aire style painting, entitled by us "Monterey Seascape", has been done in oils on canvas board.
This great work measures 8" X 10" unframed, and 9" X 11"....in the 1 1/2" deep gold trimmed frame with black outer edges. This frame is very reminiscent of the frames used for his 1997 exhibition at the Monterey Museum of Art.
The painting is in excellent condition. The frame is in very good, ready to hang condition.
The colors on this painting are very close to the actual image. Make sure your computer monitor is adjusted properly to view the rich colors Crispo has imparted on this very nice painting.
While this work is not signed by Crispo, we do guarantee it's authenticity. We acquired this work from a former Carmel Art Association employee. She was presented this work directly from Crispo. We've had many of Dick Crispo's works come through our collection over the years. This is the "real deal"!
We have other Dick Crispo works currently showing in our Ebay Gallery.
