when andreas mikkelsen (b. 1928) joined the georg jensen firm in 1955 it was not initially as a designer but as a part of the management
he was educated at the renowned niels brock school of business in copenhagen and the copenhagen school of economics and business administration
mikkelsen has filled out several leading positions within the georg jensen company over the years…
from 1963-1970 he functioned as the company's head of sales; from 1978-1983 as sales and production director; from 1983-85 he was the managing director; and from 85-89 he was artistic director and head of product development of the royal copenhagen group
how did he find the time to carry out his widely adored innovative and captivating designs for the company as well?
as a matter of fact he didn't - at least not until 1989, the end of his period of royal copenhagen leadership, although he had creating designs before that
but now he found the space to concentrate fully on his original designs for functional everyday objects such as photo frames, key rings and cd racks as well as jewelry for both men and women and a series of weather stations in fine pewter
andreas mikkelsen is also the designer of several of the very popular georg jensen christmas decoration items such as candle holders and ornamental figures
his works are characterized by a keen sense of clarity and precision in formal execution
