Title: Young Woman Lace Gloves with Book

Condition: Medium tone daguerreotype with no remnant of original tape, copper plate edges are well turned up with 2 indentions along the vertical edges and 4 lightly clipped corners, tarnish along edges in the shape of the mat. There are several small brown spots. Pressed paper decorated case shows loss at edges and is overall rubbed, hinge is holding, faded gold velvet insert with impressed design has split along the design pattern. Preserver is good, mat shows some spotting.
Other: Pensive young woman with fingerless black lace gloves holding a diary or small book with flower motif on cover (lightly tinted red petals). Touches of gold on necklace and earrings with pink on the cheeks. Very stylish period frock with white color and stripes at shoulders and sleeves. Plate mark described by Rinhart as, “Wreath Plate, 1855-1861. Marginally popular.”
