Superb vintage teak Danish desk. Atypical design with a hinged secretary desk top that flips back to create a larger surface area. Plenty of storage space and work space in either position. Main desk cabinet has four drawers and cubbie holes on the back. Finished on all sides for placement anywhere in the room.
Designed by Jens Quistgaard in the 1960s this one is clearly stamped 1967 on the underside of the drawers. Meticulous attention to detail is the hallmark of this desk's construction - Sculpted handles, grained teak veneers, solid teak legs and all brass fittings. The body is pressboard with teak veneers. The spacers in secretary are wood. Dovetailed drawer fronts with sculpted inset handles. The legs are doweled to the desktop which allows this to ship flat, you simply reinsert the dowels and fittings upon arrival. Maker's mark Lovig - Dansk Designs - is branded into the wood.
Measures overall 63 3/4" long, 28 3/4" wide or 38" wide when fully extended., 34" high to the top of the back secretary.
Table top height is 28 3/4"
Knee hole height is 23 3/4"
Condition - Beautiful, restored condition. When we first found this desk it was in need of attention. We have had the following work done professionally - newly varnished finish on all case top and sides that exactly matches the original finish, three new handles carved from walnut that are a very close match to the original teak. A piece on the bottom right was replaced. One of the secretary spacers has a repair. No need to restore the legs or interior spaces and you will see a few scuffs and scratches within these spaces which are rather hidden from view. Sorry, we do not have the key. Interior of the drawers are clean except for the last one on the right which has stains. Some of the brass screws in the hinge are replacements. Overall, this is a fantastic piece in beautiful condition.
Note: This auction is for the desk only. Sorry, the chair is not included.
Shipping -
We can disassemble the desk legs for more economical shipping. The legs are doweled and have a brass fitting which is easy to reattach but you will need someone to help you. We will ship via Plycon blanket wrap service which would cost a bit more but worth it in the end. We would estimate Plycon to be about 300.00 to the East Coast with a transit time of 2-3 weeks. Less if you are in the Midwest or West. You may email us for an exact quote.
If you happen to be in the Central or Bay Area of CA, we are traveling that direction on 23May and may be able to deliver for a reasonable fee.
Pick up is welcome! We are in the Silverlake area of Los Angeles. CA sales tax applies to all CA purchases.
Sorry but due to size, we are unable to ship internationally.
