Simply spectacular design and so very unusual.... if you are looking for a wall unit that will stand out from the rest, then here you have it. This is just about the ultimate in design and function --
Extreme design ant leg freestanding supports, rounded edge cabinet cases, sculpted wood handles and the whole unit is freestanding. If you look at this carefully, you will see there are almost no right angles - every little piece is either rounded or tapered . Totally unique and so very beautifully made.
Fine attention to detail is the hallmark of this unit. The support braces are solid teak wood with an amazing hook system. Note how each bracket point is a carved crescent shape that catches the custom machined tooled brass caps. Expensive to manufacture and simply ingenious. Wall supports rest upon doweled legs that angle out. This is a freestanding unit so you don't have to attach it to the wall unless you choose to do so.
Each cabinet has rounded, tapered edges and sides.. these are not squared at all. The cabinets are made of pressboard with some of the nicest teak veneers that have mellowed to a beautiful coloration. The backs are all masonite. Stamped on the back "Made in Norway" but (surprisingly) no maker's mark that we can find. We understand from a family member of the original owner that this system was purchased in the 1970s or possibly earlier.
This Auction Includes ------
Six upright supports-
These are made to be freestanding but you may wish to add a nail or two at the top for additional stability which is what the original owner had done. This system has six wall brackets so you can decide whether to use all
four sections (bays) together or keep three together and have a
separate desk unit which is how it was used by the original owner. Lots of choices for arrangement. The angled out, tapered "ant" legs are now permanently affixed to the uprights for stability and strength. This was done as a professional repair.
Six cases (cabinets) -
- 1 Bar Case -
Caned inset front panel. Locking cabinet with original key included. When the front panel is pulled down, it is a service panel with protective black laminate surface. The back wall is lined with a mirror in geometric mosaic. Removable glass shelf and side storage for taller bottles. Piano hinged.
- 1 Desk Case -
Two drawers for holding supplies. Small writing space but big enough to hold a laptop. The laptop shown is larger than normal size. This has a larger bracket and comes out further from the wall. Original owner used this in separate room using two of the wall supports. This is why there is an extra wall support included with this system.
- 2 Large Storage Cabinets -
Each has lots of storage space.
One is a four drawer cabinet.
The other is a divided cabinet with four small drawers on one side and the other side has a sliding door that opens to shelf divided space. The shelf is not adjustable and is fixed in place.
- 2 Glass door cabinets-
each has a fixed shelf and the light sage green laminate backing is a design detail.
1 case has the most fabulous etched/frosted glass Mid Century design doors.
1 case has clear glass doors.
- 5 Shelves -
Four of these are the same depth of 8 1/2" and one is a wider depth of 12".
Brackets are included
Measures as shown (with all four bays set up side by side)
129" long, 80" high, 16 1/2" depth on the biggest cabinets.
each bay is about 32" wide
Condition is amazingly good. There is very little wear or damage and was well maintained. There are just some extremely minor (non structural) issues that are only mentioned for accuracy --
One of the large drawers has contact paper affixed that you may simply replace or ignore.
The brackets gold tone finish is oxidized and pitted.
Desk drawer has dark stain inside.
Back right corner of desk has 1" long veneer chip and bump. See picture.
There is a small sliver of wood that has split on one of the connecting crescents (does not effect function).
On the top of one glass cabinet there is a light 1 1/2" red ink mark.
One glass cabinet has a spider web fracture to the back laminate.
Probably the biggest thing to note is that the mirror pieces in the back of the bar have white cloudy areas on every piece. This is about 25% of total surface area.
Nail holes at the top of each upright from the original owner nailing to the wall.
Legs of supports have been professionally glued and clamped together but some have a tiny bit of glue showing.
One small bookshelf has a large scratch on the underside.
Some extremely light fade spots on cabinet surfaces. A small bump or scuff here and there. Nothing that stands out or detracts.
One small shelf has plastic rather than brass connector knobs which are hidden when installed.
Overall this system is in super good condition!
