Indian incense is very different from incense made in the U.S.
Here in the U.S. most incense is made with a blank stick (punk), dipped in oil. The quality of the oil and the length the stick is soaked is what makes the difference in the quality of the incense.
Indian incense is made by creating a type of slurry of oils and resins; this is then hand rolled around a wood stick. This incense is made entirely of resins and natural ingredients -- nothing synthetic. This method allows for very different scents and a distinctive quality that some love. Indian incense has been made this way for hundreds of years, and is considered “traditional” incense. It’s more like the incense that has been burned for centuries in temples and which has been used for ceremonial purposes. The fragrance of natural incense is VERY different than oil-dipped incense. Some people prefer it, and some don’t. We recommend that you try some and see how you like it.
