This auction is to get some opinions and perhaps some bids if someone knows what this is. THIS SPECIMEN IS AS OF YET NOT IDENTIFIED PROFESSIONALLY. **** Darth Vader. It looks kind of like Darth Vader – that’s my identification for it. This passed the meteorite-identification.com home test, so this is worth investigating. If it were a meteorite - it would be a stony-iron octahedrite or possibly a mesosiderite.
Sticks to magnet, maybe 20-30% of the strength of what a steel bar would do. Smaller pieces can lift themselves up from inches away and stick to a regular steel magnet. Streak: Does not streak well; crust streaks black, but inner pieces seem not to at all. Top-right picture: I filed off a window saw about a 50% mixture of metal weaving through!  This seems to have a bright metal interior after being filed that reminds me of IRON, NICKEL, and MAGNESIUM, with fine-grained gray-brown rock in-between. For having iron there sure is no rust and a lot of brown crust. I noted that the indigenous dirt that was stuck to other specimens looked somewhat jammed onto some of them. Crust looks about up to 1 mm thick and looks like dark and milk chocolate in places. There are a few metallic pearl-like things in this, maybe chondrules - they do not look organic. Look at the pictures showing the fragments - note the "tail" looking fragment. It looks like a molten boot. They look like they could be re-assembled into something. Numbers in picture: 1) Small white stone - NOT quartz. 2) thick crust. 3) Ablation. 4) Regmaglypt (exact size of my thumbprint). 5) Molten "tail" bead (least magnetic).
I like this sort of stuff A LOT and must say I am a rockhound extremely excited and waiting on results from 2 labs. If these heavy, crusted, strange black-metal stones are indeed what I saw falling, I bet it would be really something. Specimen is 26.4g. About 1 cubic inch. Insured shipping $6. **** What I saw: This is the honest to God truth, scouts honor and as a good and reputable seller: Around 4 AM May 16, 2008 I saw a blue to white streaking meteor falling south to north toward the road I was on in Southeastern Arizona that burned out about 4 hand-widths over the horizon. It was not really a big fireball, however it looked like it was dead-on, counties ahead. Who knows why I even got out of the car and looked an hour or two later in the drive, just to stretch, but I found a few of THESE. Found within a 15x40 foot area practically ON a desolate road. **** Note to the curious: I will answer most any question you have if it will help either of us, however I will not provide any information as to exact whereabouts of the site, not even close, so please do not ask. Also, I know that sometimes people care about bogus auctions, private property and all the rest, but lets keep your warnings to a minimum! I list this as an interesting thing that I was meant to find. I don’t even think I should sell it yet, but I’ve got several. I really think they are IMPORTANT. That is why this auction is geared more toward the knowledgeable and serious – even if I don’t use scientific classifications. Lets say I’ve seen a lot of rocks out there, like a farmer would, and had a B average in two college geology courses. I have never dealt in meteorites or anything like this before – just electronics and some collectibles and art. This is extremely different, and as of yet this chunk or fragment is UNIDENTIFIED by a lab. It really passes the home tests & looks extremely fresh. I will have results within a couple weeks. It definitely looks like thousands of degrees Fahrenheit hit this. And MAGNESIUM-IRON would make a blue-white shooting star if this has anything to do with what I saw. YOU GET THE ONE FRAGMENT DESCRIBED WITH THIS AUCTION. See my other “supposed meteorite” auction.
