Printed in 1886, this is a beautiful, very decorative, 122-year-old full color map of the Earth depicting North America, Greenland, Africa, Asia and Europe, and Unknown Regions of the North Pole. This map measures about 10 1/2 by 13 inches (about 28 by 33 cm.), and is in Fine condition. Topographical features are shown as well as countries, and major cities. The smaller spheres show land and water masses from different Polar projections. Terrain elevations and drainage are indicated using hachures, as was customary in 19th Century cartography. This map is decorated in an ornate Art Nouveau style, including gorgeous little natural history engravings.

This map was printed on a single page and bound whole in an antique book. There are no folds or creases, marks or stains, the coloring is nice and fresh, and the paper is clean and not brittle. A map ot the Western Hemisphere (Americas) is printed on the reverse. Highly suitable for framing (see sample presentation at bottom left), it would look great in your office, den or study. It is similar to many of the maps shown in expensive mail-order and on-line catalogues, with one important exception: this is an actual antique, NOT a modern copy or reproduction.
