Decoupage Solid Brass Vase with early 19thc Lady This beautifully shaped vase is a deep shade of burgundy, and is decorated with the seated figure of a lady in late eighteenth or early 19th century dress.
This beautifully decorated piece is created using the découpage method, an artform that finds its roots in the decorative work of 12th C Chinese peasants, though the methods used to decorate this item more closely resemble the work done in Venice during the 17th C: The image is taken from a famous painting, and the background of trees, shrubbery, and drapery, as well as the background they bleed into are all hand painted. Then several layers of lacquer is applied upon the entirety. This vase is made of solid brass. It measures 11 inches high and is 9 inches wide. The mouth of the vase is an oval just under 5 inches long and 2.25 inches wide.
