This system is sized and designed to power a full-time Grid-tie home or standalone cabin, it has the advantage of still supplying power to the house when the grid is down, like a uninterruptable power supply (UPS) for the whole building. If you are looking for a part-time home package, I have other auctions for that need. You will need to provide battery connectors, and ground solar panel mounts (you can mount roof mounts or trackers, all of which I can supply) Before installing on roof you need to check codes and roof load capability of the house You will need to supply wiring from your circuit breaker box to the xantrex distribution center and all wiring for solar panels, and battery bank. With this set you should be able to run a well equipped full-time solar home, the grid or a generator would be used for backup power. This system will run lights, fans, microwave, computers, LCD TVs, deep well water pump, compressors, normal solar home appliances, etc. In a normal solar home all heating and cooking would be with wood or propane, a refrigerator would be at least a new energy star or super high efficiency (see my catalog) or would run on propane. During extended periods of cloudy weather you should expect the unit to switch to power from the grid or need to turn the generator on unless you are very frugal with you electric usage. For a longer runtime with large power draw equipment or in high overcast area an additonal battery bank and more solar panels would be the first addition I would make. Solar Power Estimator:
To get a good estimate of the output potential of this system, I suggest you go to a Department of Energy site "in my backyard" a solar output and wind output estimator

This program uses the PVWATTS government program that estimates actual power output from your location based on historical weather and solar output information and should provide a very good guesstimate of actual power output. To use this progarm click on IMBY and type in your address and click find. Then chose solar and and click DRAW and double click on your roof to allow you to go to the next step (if you want to do more with the draw option, read the instructions in the help section of that page). Then go down to step 2 and type 3.04 in the Size box. If your mounting location (Roof, Ground, or Pole mount) points true south and is sloped the same as the tilt angle you are done. If not you need to enter the proper numbers for your mounting location. When you click RUN it will show your estimated solar power output along with some return estimates.
In the payback section the return estimates are based on fully installed cost from a relatively high priced installer. The system they use by default is for a pure grid tie system that is fully loaded with panels. You are purchasing a hybrid grid tie system that is only 1/2 loaded. If you add the additional solar panels and charge controller to go to fully loaded your per watt cost will be even lower to $5.60/watt. Regardless, for the base system put in $7.25 for cost per watt for this system as shown since that should be your installed cost on a ground or pole mount system. The package will provide an estimate of tax credits, power company credits, and payback plus your monthly power production. You can adjust most everything in the program so feel free to experiment! Again no guarantees on actual rebates received or power output, but this is the best first pass system I have found.

Battery Pack:
These batteries were installed in denver and were online for just over 4 years. Denver has very stable power so the cells were hardly cycled, it shows in their test results. All the batteries test excellent with the Midtronics tester (see explanation below) and that is confirmed by their voltage and load meter tests. These batteries tested from 90-105% of the reference value, truly excellent condition. Note that each battery is tested with that unit prior to shipment. These are the same brand and type of batteries that I installed in my own off-the-grid home. The solar items and the batteries will be shipped separately due to freight pricing considerations. Note that I reserve the right to substitute with similar technology and date batteries since my stock of used and tested batteries is continually sold and replaced. Regardless with any substitutions, it will only occur if I am out of the described batteries and the replacement batteries will provide at least the same total AH (amp-hrs) as this package and the same or newer manufacture date.
This battery back consists of a premium 10 year design life set of sealed AGM batteries made by C&D Technologies they deliver 85 AH each (10 hr rate to 1.80v). This bank can produce 340 AH at 48 volts, the voltage required for the inverter. THIS IS A POWERFUL BATTERY BANK THAT WAS ONLINE FOR LESS THAN 1/3 OF ITS 10 YEAR DESIGN LIFE. This is a small sized bank that can supply the needs of a grid-tie home or cabin during periods of power outage or over cloudy periods. These batteries meet the non-hazardous shipping classification of non-spillable. Each battery is 12 volts, produces 370 watts/cell (each battery has 6 2-volt cell, just like your 12 volt car battery) and weighs 75 lb each and you are getting 16 of these batteries. These batteries sell new from discounters for $320 each, so you are getting a total value of over $5120 for the batteries alone. These batteries were tested and all had carried at least 12.75 up to 13.00 volts. They are all were also tested with a Midtronics Celltron Ultra industrial battery tester (approved IEEE testing method: http://www.midtronics.com/home/support/sproducts/conductancefaq/conductancefaq.aspx) and all tested in excellent condition.
These batteries can be wired in series and parallel to deliver 48 volt power that your inverter requires. That flexibility makes them perfect for these Solar Inverters. Sharp is a Japanese solar manufacturing company that has developed high quality multicrystalline solar panels that provide high power in a moderate sized panel. These panels are made in the USA by Sharp. Each of these panels is rated at 216 watts of very reliable solar power. The Solar panels are covered by a 25 year, 80% power output warranty and a 5 year manufacturer's material and defects warranty. These panels are well suited for roof mount or ground mount so you have lots of options. Inverter:
This package is designed to meet the power requirements of a grid-tie home or remote solar powered cabin. This Xantrex XW6048 inverter takes the 48 Volt DC from the batteries and solar panels and convert it to 120 VAC and 240 VAC, suppling both voltages at the same time. If you want to expand the system, up to 3 inverters can be connected to the distribution center that is part of this auction. The inverter has a built-in 60 amp transfer switch and a 85 amp adjustable battery charger. In Grid-tie mode this unit will provide all the power to the house it can and any extra power will be delivered to the grid. Unlike other grid-tie inverters, this unit will provide power to the house when the utility grid is down. You can also use this unit as a power supply for a standalone cabin without any grid connection, but more batteries would be required. With the transfer switch you can hook a generator to the transfer master and when you start the generator the inverter automatically switches to the generator for power rather than the batteries. With the generator turned on the inverter begins charging the batteries. You can then run the generator for several hours to give you additional days of battery power running time in winter cloudy days.
Inverters come in two common technologies, Pure Sine Wave and Modified Sine Wave. Pure sine wave is required if you are doing a grid-tie system, but modified sine wave works for almost all electronics. This package uses a pure sine wave inverter that is just like the grid provides, only cleaner.

This package includes a Xantrex XW-MPPT60 (maximum power point tracking) charge controller rated 60 amps at output voltage. This charge controller works for 48 volt battery banks. The units has an LCD display that shows amp and volts for the system, has an optional battery temperature sensor and uses MPPT charge control technology. This package also includes the Bogart Engineering PentaMetric Battery Monitoring system with two shunts. You can monitor the power from you solar panels before the charge controller and the battery output to the inverter. This meter displays your battery voltage, your charge and discharge rate and you total AH (cumulative AH) used since the last full charge. This is a very handy meter because it instantly allows you to accurately determine how deeply discharged are the batteries. That way you can make sure your control your depth of discharge to the level you determine fits your needs (for very long life I recommend 20% DOD). It also has an optional computer interface to historical tracking. Read the website info you will not believe all it does!

Solar System: This package is a great for solar powered (solar, wind, hydro) a full-time home or cabin. The batteries are premium quality designs that will provide a long life when used properly. The batteries are very long life batteries (10 year design-life) and designed for power supply usage such as remote homes, computer centers or grid tie solar systems. If your power requirements have large peak loads, then it may be appropriate to purchase additional sets of batteries so the battery pack is not deeply discharged, especially with extended stays. Your actual power usage will determine what is adequate for your needs, this package is designed as a general package to meet common systems. As with any deep discharge battery the lower the depth of discharge the less total cycles the battery will do, so buy enough batteries and solar panel so that you don't have to deeply discharge the batteries.
The battery charge can be maintained by several different options that can all work together.
1 Solar Panels set up to deliver 24 volts along with a charge controller designed to work with sealed AGM Gel batteries
2 Hydro power, one of the best systems since the power output is continous charging the battery 24/7. Again this requires 24 volt for your system voltage output with a charge controller

Battery Testing: All batteries are tested for voltage and load before shipment to assure we are shipping a quality product. Before being shipped, batteries are tested with a Midtronics Celltron Ultra Stationary Battery Tester (www.midtronics.com). This unit is a $6000 professional battery tester designed to test 2v-16v industrial batteries sized from 20 AH to 4000 AH. It was designed to test batteries that are still part of an active battery bank (it also tests disconnected batteries, that is the easy test). It measures the conductance of the individual cells (2 volt cells) or the entire battery and compares those measured conductances with a database of batteries that have measurements for. For other batteries that are not in the database, testing of a large group of the same batteries is used to develop a good cell number. If batteries test from 90-100% of the reference number they are considered in excellent condition. If the batteries are no longer online, then the battery is considered good from 70 to 80% of the reference number. For batteries that are 60% or below, the are considered at risk and should be replaced.
All of the batteries I sell test excellent unless specifically set forth in the listing. That is the best test method available in the battery industry and midtronics is considered the leading battery tester.
How Much Power: Since I have no idea of your actual power usage, this package is designed to meet general usage guidelines, your actual solar access, usage and power requirements may require a slightly modified package. I will happly provide a custom package once you have determined your power requirements throughout an average day (the worksheets in my catalog [for sale in my ebay store] will provide all the information need for me to make better sizing estimates). The more batteries you have in your system the less the depth of discharge and the longer the battery life. In my own cabin, I had l-16 batteries (these were 5 year warranty life) that are 15 years old and they were still going strong, but I only take them down to 20% DOD, so it has paid me many times over to have installed additional batteries at the start. In November I finally took the L16s offline and added 32 of this technology used batteries to my own cabin along with a new charge controller with built in meter. These are such a great system that I am using them on my own cabin. My bank of batteries supplies power for electric lights, propane forced air furnace (80,000 btu), microwave, deep well 220 volt water pump, stereo, computer, compressor (in my garage) and fans.
Batteries are shipped up to 48 to a pallet so a second or a third set only adds a percentage of the cost of shipping the first 16. Trucking companies generally charge 60-80% of the base battery system shipping cost for an additional set. 48 batteries is the max weight that can be shipped on a single pallet.
