Canada was among the first countries to publish a 'national atlas.' This first edition made extensive use of the 1901 census and was the definitive source of information about Canada's economic and political geography, infrastructure, demography, and natural resources. Since then, four more editions of the atlas have been published.

In 2006, Canada Post issued a series of stamps to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the atlas. The Canadian Ministry of Natural Resources maintains an extensive website about the atlas. It's worth a visit:  Atlas of Canada Website

The first edition of this atlas has become difficult to find, at any price. I was lucky to find this one from a book seller in the U.K., who had himself bought it from a university library in York, England. By the time it came into my hands, the book was in three pieces. The maps, however, were all intact and unscathed.

Many of the maps are almost like bold modern art. In many maps, the colors are so rich that you can literally feel the ink on the page with your finger. Any of the maps I'm listing from the atlas would look great framed, and hanging one (or a pair) would definitely draw attention.

Owning a map from this atlas is owning a valuable historical document.  I will include a copy of the title page (pictured below) with all shipments.
