Handmade Divine King of Celluloid 14kt Fountain Pen
Do you know the maker of Visconti- Manhattan and Ragtime fountain pen??????
As you can see, this time I have uploaded a very special celluloid fountain pen. This pen is not the usual Japanese famous brand fountain pen but a very unique handmade celluloid fountain pen. When I first saw this pen, I was mesmerized by its beauty and aura. To quench my thirst of curiosity, I researched a lot about this pen and its artist. Finally to my efforts, I found a very old person living in the outskirts of Osaka makes these kinds of special celluloid fountain pens.
I went to his house to visit him. 82years old man stood in front of me with a glint of shine in his eyes. I was warmly welcomed by him and his wife with great hospitality.
On the rainy day with hot green tea, as I sipped the tea, he narrated me his beautiful journey of the fountain pen. His name is “Kiyoski kato”, almost fluent in many languages. His father used to make celluloid fountain pen. So katosan was very well aware of the celluloid fountain pens and through hierarchy, he continued making celluloid fountain pen.
During the World War 2, katosan travelled to Europe to sell his handmade fountain pens. I was taken a back when he told me that, he is the maker and art behind the famous “Visconti- Manhattan and Ragtime” fountain pen. We all know these fountain pens but nobody knows the maker and the art. This was seriously very excited and engrossed completely in his talks. He gradually became famous for his fountain pens and he made some factories in Egypt with lot of workers. But after World War 2, everything was destroyed and he decided to return to Japan and spend his old age life. His fountain pens popularity made him, to make more fountain pens but this time only for Japanese people. He and his wife both make the fountain pen and there are no other workers.
After knowing the reason, he told me that in order to make a fountain pen, an ordinary person needs to spend 20 years for training, due to this strict requirement, and he hired no workers. When I saw his handmade celluloid fountain pens, they all looked very different from each other and were truly unique.
As you can see from the pictures, these pens are handmade and not the normal famous brand factory made pens, so the demand for his pens is very high in Japan. For example, the Montblanc and Pilot brand, make the factory based fountain pens with all parts of the pen beautifully made but this pen has its specialty of everything made by Katosan by himself.
As there are also some famous and nice handmade brand like Montegrappa and Stipulaetc which makes handmade expensive pen but these brands pens some parts are handmade especially the outer design while the inner parts are factory made so there is a mixture of handmade and factory made.
But Katosan`s pen you wil find that he makes all the parts by himself such as the barrel, pen clip and everything so each piece is distant and unique.
In all pens he make, there is some different feelings inside it as he makes it with true passion and thinks about the user while making. He usually makes his pens for normal all users as these fountain pens have become rare and an ordinary person can’t use it. He wants everyone to use and experience his handmade fountain pens.
To my surprise, he selects all the material, like the pens clip, barrel material, special celluloid and makes it all by his hand. This is a great technique which only God gifted people can have in them and he is one of them
But as he has grown too old to make and he makes a very few of them, so I think that my foreign friends would love to collect this pen as a great collection, as many Japanese are now preserving his great art and technique.
My hats off to this “KING OF CELLULOID PEN” and I also asked for his permission to introduce to my eBay buyers. He smiled and permitted and I am thankful to such great personality in the fountain pens who is hidden with great skills and want to spread it secretly which is true talent. I requested him to make some pens for me and here is the one on the auction so you surely don’t want to miss it!!!
I hope you like it and I am waiting for your feedbacks on this special celluloid fountain pen!!!
