We are pleased to offer a wonderful selection of original hand colored engravings from The Natural History of British Birds by Edward Donovan. Edward Donovan (1768 - 1837) was an Anglo Irish writer, traveller and amateur zoologist.
Born in Cork, Ireland, Donovan was the founder of the London Museum and Institute of Natural History, which contained his extensive natural history collection. The collection was sold at auction in 1817.
Donovan was the author of a number of natural history titles, including Natural History of British Birds (1792-97), Natural History of British Insects (1792-1813) and Natural History of British Fishes (1802-08).
His best known works are An Epitome of the Natural History of the Insects of China (1798) and An Epitome of the Natural History of the Insects of India (1800)
Please be sure to visit our other eBay auctions as we will be listing more spectacular prints from this fine series. This particular series is unique in that the plates have not been trimmed to fit the specifications of a smaller binding so all images have wide margins. The prints look great individually or in a group.
Thank you for looking and please look at our other auctions for other original prints depicting natural history, botanical studies as well as antique maps, all offered with no trumped up reserves or high starting bids...

In addition, we have hundreds of rare prints and colorplate books, maps and atlases at set prices. We have recently been fortunate enough to acquire, for example, the original watercolors from Lewin's "Birds of Great Britain". We also have listed several prints from Shaw and Nodder's "The Naturalist's Miscellany", architectural engravings by Neufforge, flower prints from Curtis' "Flora Londinensis". We will be updating this frequently. We are committed to offering the very best antique prints available with over the top superior service. Please click "here" for more information about us.
