Album notes
Blue Oyster Cult: Eric Bloom (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser (vocals, guitar); Joe Bouchard (vocals, bass); Albert Bouchard (vocals, drums); Allen Lanier (guitar, keyboards); Rick Downey (drums).
Producers include: M. Krugman, S. Pearlman, D. Lucas, Blue Oyster Cult, Martin Birch.
Compilation producers: Bruce Dickinson.
Recorded between 1972 & 1983. Includes liner notes by Scott Schinder.
Digitally remastered by Vic Anesini (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York).
Fans of Blue Oyster Cult have always touted them as the thinking man's heavy metal band. To their detractors, however, Blue Oyster Cult are pretentious poseurs peddling watered down Celine (the French writer, not Ms. Dion) to an audience of credulous adolescents.
What this best-of anthology shows, however, is that while both descriptions are true to an extent, Blue Oyster Cult get away with it because the band also have a sense of humor. Few others, for example, could pen a song about a Japanese movie monster with the line, "History shows again and again, how nature points up the folly of men," repeated four times, no less, without tempting ridicule, but Blue Oyster Cult are seemingly immune. DON'T FEAR THE REAPER... is a solid compilation, with representative cuts from nine of the band's albums between 1972 and 1983 highlighting their more conventional, commercial material.

ABOUT THIS CD  - VERSION IS FROM 1997

In many cases, the CDs I sell will be first editions, or the very first time that title ever appeared on CD. Because so few people had CD players way back when, very few of these early CDs were pressed, making them rare and collectable today. In addition to being coveted by collectors, many audiophiles prefer these early CDs, as they have no over-compression (excessive LOUDNESS) or crazy EQ applied like so many modern versions or so-called "remasters".

Also, the quality of the discs themselves is much higher than modern versions, which you can easily see and feel when you hold one of these great old CDs. They are thicker and more sturdy, and have a mirror finish to them. It is believed that the extra care and quality control used at early CD pressing plants also contributes to the increased sound quality of many of these older CDs. Heck, even the old jewel cases are thicker and heavier!

ABOUT MY GRADING

Because I am also a collector, I grade much more strictly than most ebay sellers. We've all bought "excellent" condition discs that turn out to be scratched beyond recognition. I would not do that to my customers.

BRAND NEW: As new, unopened in plastic.
LIKE NEW-: A few light, teeny tiny marks visible at close inspection that prevent disc from being called "BRAND NEW".
VERY GOOD: Near Mint. A few small light marks, but still a super disc, and highly collectable.
GOOD: Excellent. Some small marks/wear and possibly a *small* and *light* scuff or two. Still quite nice, and definitely a collectable quality disc.
ACCEPTABLE. A listening copy that plays flawlessly, but has some typical "used CD" marks/wear/scuffs. My "VG+" is far better than many ebay sellers' "GOOD".
