Extremely hard-to-find Dotzauer Circular Alto Horn in E-flat and F
The closest you can come to a professional quality Mellophone are the European Circular Alto horns, and the Dotzauer is one of the finest made today. These horns are hand-made to order from Germany and are extremely hard to come by.
Horn has an 11" bell and a large throat, plus rotory valves played with the right hand. The tone is big and dark and the intonation is excellent.
The horn is about 3 years old and in flawless condition (contrary to the photo, the lead pipe is not damaged -- it is supposed to be bent). Know up front that I did have some minor surgery performed on the horn -- I had the main tuning slide rebuilt to have removeable sleeves so it can play in F as well as E-flat, and I had the valve slides shortened a little to accomodate playing in F. I also had a palm stop attached so it's comfortable to hold. All work was performed by The Brass Lab in NYC and none of it compromized the quality of the sound, playability or the intonation.
Horn comes with a case, key, palm stop, and extra Bach 3 Mellophone mouthpiece that has been altered to fit the lead pipe receiver (which is a hair larger than a traditional Mellophone, hence the altered mouthpiece).
These horns retail for over $2,500, not counting the overseas shipping and the incredible wait as it's being built and shipped.
PayPal is preferred, but check and money order is okay, too. Add $35 for UPS shipping -- you'll want it shipped as carefully as possible.
And, if you're wondering, I'm selling it because I have 2 other horns that suit my needs, and I hate seeing this beauty not being played.
