Being Offered Is this unique early to late 1800's Painted Grain box. We believe this box is from Brattleboro (S.E.)are of Vermont, as it is lined with fragments of newspaper from Brattleboro with the date 1839. Naturally the newspaper could have been added later, yet the hand done dovetail and the square nail lead us to believe that the box was probably Constructed prior to 1850.
The top appears to have been one solid piece which split (pictured). A crude repair has been made and the mending board is also attached with handmade square nails. The top hinges on the lock was at some point in time removed as the lower half of the lock in the secure position (no key available).
this box measures 27 3/4" wide ,15"deep, and stands 1 1/2" tall. Please review all the pictures and note the handles on the side on the box.
