Dtd 1871 ANTIQUE CAUCASIAN SHIRVAN RUG. SHOWS SOME WEAR

COLLECTOR'S EARLY ANTIQUE IVORY GROUND SHIRVAN GROUP SMALL RUG, East Caucasus Mountains, dated: 1282 (1871), and showing some wear areas. The exact size is: 3'-0" x 3'-11" (92 x 120 cm). Finely woven with 120 symmetrical knots per square inch on natural ivory wool warps and natural cotton wefts, this very old dated specimen has rich natural dyes and displays a plant form garden field design with scattered filler motifs of animals, humans, amulet talismans, and small diamonds. The ivory field composition is nicely framed by a dark indigo blue border containing "crab" elements common to many weaving regions of the Caucasus. Both ends are slightly reduced and the side cords have been re-wrapped. Albeit in distressed condition, this old specimen is still a great little rug for the collector and displays nicely on the wall.
