Dynojet 224x Portable / Mobile Chassis Dyno Trailer Dynamometer
Up for sale is my mobile Dynojet Trailer Version 3. I built this trailer and use it in my tuning business. This trailer was finished in November and is just a few months old, it was first used at the 2007 PRI show in Orlando, FL. At PRI it was on display for Dynojet, with a Shelby GT500 spinning the roller. The trailer has less than 500 miles on it. The auction includes the trailer with all accessories, Dynojet 224 dyno and dyno electronics. Dyno and electronics are installed and operational.
Usage:
- Will accomdate FWD or RWD vehicles, up to 14ft wheelbase. A Longbed, 4-door, F350 pickup truck can be dynoed on this trailer.
- The trailer is designed to accomodate vehicles with as little as 3-4" of ground clearance. Over the years I have found the biggest problem with dynoing vehicles is clerance. I have made the ramps very long and designed this trailer to clear very low vehicles. Every vehicle that you can not dyno at a show is lost revenue.
- Two guys can strap down a car and run it in less than 10 minutes, it is very easy to dyno 5-6 RWD cars per hour at a show. At $50-$75 per car this trailer has the ability to make ~$450 per hour. It is not unusual for me to go out a show and dyno 20-30 vehicles in an afternoon.
- If you take the dyno to two events per month and dyno 25 vehicles at each event you can pay for the trailer in just over a year. Not a bad return on investment. If you are a full blown shop you will generate tons of parts, tuning, and labor work from the mobile dyno.
- My design allows you to set up and break down the trailer in less than 10 minutes, the ramps are all hinged and easily fold out, electronics are already on board and hooked up, all you have to do is plug in to power and plug in to your laptop computer. There are no heavy platforms to set up and no heavy dyno to pull out of an enclosed trailer, like some other brands of so called "portable dynos". My design allows you to drive right up and start making pulls.
- This trailer weighs in at less than 7000lbs, it can be pulled by a 1/2 ton pickup truck. Watch out for monster mobile dynos that require a 1 ton dually to pull.
- This trailer was buit specifically to dyno all types of cars and trucks with ease. It is a completely custom design that was built around the dyno from the ground up.
- The trailer was built to last and look good for years. You will find many aluminum and stainless parts on the trailer, to prevent rust in friction areas and reduce weight.
- Rain will not harm the dyno or trailer.
Dynojet:
- We only use Dynojet brand dynos.
- They are the most cosistent for power measurement and tuning.
- Power numbers can be compared across many different dynos.
- Very simple and rugged design is great for trailer use. Only one moving part (roller) and only two bearings.
- Very little electrical power usage when run in inertia mode, ~3 amps, only a small generator is required in the field.
- Model 224 (included) can measure up to 1500HP and 1500TQ
- Built in wather station for providing SAE corrected power numbers.
- Many add on modules available: boost, temp, 0-5v aux input, and OBD2 data.
Air/Electrical system:
- On board compressed air for tires and dyno drum brakes
- Dual Viair 400C compressors, up to 150psi
- 8.5 gal air tank
- Dual 6V 220AH golf cart batteries
Stabilization:
- Two Atwood electric jacks on front of trailer
- Jack stands in rear for stabilizing trailer when pulling vehicles on and off
- 4 air hoses hooked up to tire valve stem automatically inflate and deflate tires with on-board air system
- 4x4s are placed under dyno cradle and tires are deflated to stabilize trailer and deter theft
Tie downs:
- 4 tie down points in front
- 4 tie down points in rear
- Chain slot tie down points for ratchet straps, makes adjustment quick and easy (tow-truck style)
- 6 ratchet straps and axle straps included
Boxes and storage:
- 5' wide x 26" deep x 16" tall box on drivers side for Dynojet stack electronics, wired with 120v outlets and retractable cord
- 5' wide x 30" deep x 17" tall box on passenger side for tables, tents, and other supplies
- Dual T locks on all boxes, keyed alike
Ramps:
- 20" wide 3 piece aluminum ramps
- Two 3.5ft sections per side and one 3ft section
- First ramp is very gradual to accomodate vehicles with 3-4" of front bumper clearance
- 6ft long dovetail
- Overall ramp length 10', 16' with dovetail
- 3 piece ramps fold up and are tied down for travel
- 3" thick alum box tube ramp frame with 1/8" diamond plate covering
Misc Features:
- Adjustable height aluminum fan stand for pointing "carpet blower" style fans at the vehicle
- LED trailer lights
- 14,000lb 2 5/16" adjustable height hitch ball coupler.
- Tandem 6000lb Dexter Torflex axles with 12" drum brakes on all corners
- 7-way trailer connector
- breakaway box
- 16" D rated aluminum wheels and tires (14,000lbs GWR)
- One aluminum spare tire included and mounted under dovetail
- 102" wide and 26' long.
- Deck and ramps covered with .120" aluminum diamond plate.
- Steel frame is cleaned, epoxy primed, then topcoated with black enamel.
Eddy Current Load Control:
The trailer is currently being used with eddy-current load control when I run it in my shop. The Dynojet eddy current retarder rolls up to the side of the trailer, bolts down to six 1/2" studs, and is hooked up to 240v wall power and to the dyno electronics. A slightly different software configuration is used when running it this way. I do not bring the eddy current unit with me to cars shows and events. It is on wheels with trailer jacks to facillitate moving it around the shop and bolting it up to the trailer with only one person. The primary benefit of the retarder comes when it is used for tuning or dynoing very high power vehicles and diesel trucks. When dynoing your average street car load is not needed.
The auction does not include the eddy current unit, but it can be sold with the trailer if the new owner wants it.
Tuning software:
Ford and GM tuning software is also available with this dyno trailer, if you wish to start a tuning business.
I am currently building a new trailer for my business, trailer will be available in 2-3 weeks. Below are shots of the version 2 trailer that I sold last year, you will receive the new version 3 trailer with larger wheels and tires (16" vs 15") and larger frame, however the overall design and function is the same as the one pictured below.
A variety of vehicle types can be ran on the dyno with ease, you can also see the 5' long storage box on the passenger side in these pics:

The ramps are very long and gradual, here are the first two sections:

The open dovetail design makes it very easy to tie down a car:
The open pit in the middle makes it very easy to install wideband sensors in the exhaust for tuning:

A 5' wide box on the drivers side holds all the electronics:
This is how we would set up at a show:
