Set of 9 wood knobs for E H Scott radios from the 1930's. This includes the 2 piece fast and slow tuning knobs, 5 of one style and 2 of another. This is a complete set for the Scott Phantom and possibly the Philharmonic and other models. Condition is unbelievable for a 70+ year old item. I think they are walnut. There are no cracks, no chips, no scratches, the brass inserts with setscrews are not even tarnished. I bought these about 30 years ago from a collector whose father had been a Scott dealer. They then sat in a box in a dresser drawer - untouched, unloved, forgotten for all these years. This is a rare chance for the serious collector to put the finishing touches on a classic radio. They appear to be NOS, but I am not 100% sure. I never used them. All are for a standard 1/4" shaft except the larger tuning knob which fits a 3/8" shaft. It is a joy to study the surface - how were they made? The detail represents a lost art of American craftsman. Be assured - these are wood with a varnish or lacquer finish - not a plastic repro. Think you will ever see these again? Someone is going to thank themself. They will securely packed and insured for safe shipment anywhere. On Nov-04-09 at 12:17:46 PST, seller added the following information: Thank you for the kind comments from some very nice and knowledgeable Scott collectors. But no one has answered my question - How were they made? Specifically - how were the very fine details applied to the surface? Certainly not by hand carving. Pressed..... can wood be processed like that? I would like to hear from the wood experts - ask your friends, dealers, collectors, artisans, etc. |
