EARLY 19th CENTURY WOOL EMBROIDERY WITH PAINTED SCENE

A fine skillfully embroidered outdoor scene circa 1820-1840 worked in varying shades of light tan to brown wool threads to light greens, featuring a peasant lady in quiet repose in front of her thatched home surrounded by hand painted and embroidered foliage with painted hills in the distance. The technique used is with raised french knots or seed knots, raised satin stitches and background painting. Well done painting on right side of trees and hand painted pond with rushes bottom left. Sky and hills are painted. In very good condition. Original glass, hand painted, frame and backing. Size: Frame 14-3/4" x 18-3/4". In original gilt and gesso frame with gilt chipping missing in one left corner that can be seen in photos. For the collector.

Our descriptions are true and accurate to the best of our ability. We try to observe and report every defect that we are aware of to give the buyer an accurate description but to mention every single minor blemish is laborious and unnecessary. As condition and description is largely based on personal opinion, we ask that you look at the photos carefully and decide the rating and pattern if applicable of this item for yourself. Antiques in perfect condition are more often than not, reproductions. We never knowingly sell fakes.
