I am EXTREMELY pleased to offer for sale this FABULOUS EARLY HAND CARVER CAROUSEL HORSE ATTRIBUTED TO ARMITAGE AND HERSCHELL CAROUSEL COMPANY FROM TONAWANDA, NEW YORK. The horse measures 62" long by 11" wide by 29" tall.  The company was first started by Armitage and Herschell in 1872. The early style of carousel produced by the Armitage-Herschell Company was a simple machine. The horses were plain, with little carved decoration. They sported real horsehair tails and glass eyes. The horses were mounted on rockers and gently moved back and forth. The company went bankrupt in 1899. Spillman joined the company and started making other animals for the carousel other than the horse. The horse would have jewel decorations on them along with glass eyes. This horse dates from the early years of the Company which showed simplicity and elegance. This horse has it original paint and glass eyes. Both front legs have been repaired at the knees. One back leg at the hip. Also the saddle is missing. This is still a WONDERFUL very early carousel horse by one of Americas best know carousel companies. The company I believe is still in operation. The stand for the horse is metal and measures 23" tall by 15" wide. It was made especially for this horse. It is a BEAUTIFUL piece of Americana as it is or you could have it redone. The patent on the metal plate underneath the horse I can not make out. This indeed is an early carousel horse that would certainly be a FANTASTIC addition to any collection.
