***AUCTION DESCRIPTION:***

For your bidding consideration is an EARLY STONEWARE BATTER JUG WITH WIRE BAIL HANDLE, AND ORIGINAL METAL LIDS/COVERS FOR THE TOP, AS WELL AS THE POUR SPOUT!! Now that’s a real bonus, as these are usually found minus their lids. Another great feature to this beauty are the wonderful raised three-leaf or trefoil side ears from which the bailed handle sits. There is also a third ear at the base for stability when tipping the jug to pour. It measures 9 ¾” tall with a 6 ½” diameter across the base. The lids are in great shape as well with a few minor dents and a very small amount of rust on the insides of the lids mentioned for accuracy. This wonderful early batter jug is really in nice condition with very few flaws. There are the normal glaze pops here and there, and a small approx 1” long very tight hairline at the mouth lip, as well as a small chip seen on the inner spout lip. (see photos) These do not take away from the beauty of this excellent example, but rather only adds to the character of the jug, and mentioned for accuracy. A great one for any collection.
