This is an issue of Shock Illustrated #2, dated February 1956. This was published by EC Publishing as part of the Picto-Fiction series. William Gaines was the publisher, Al Feldstein was editor / writer, with additional stories written by Jack Oleck, A.D. Locke, and even Alfred E. Neuman. Art was created by Reed Crandall, George Evans, Al Williamson and Graham Ingels. This is a very good copy of this magazine, but it's certainly not a file copy. I don't normally grade comics, so I may not use the "standard" terms, but I'll try to do my best in describing the flaws. The front cover has a 1/2" slight tear on the bottom right corner, a 1/4" tear at the top left corner, a little 1/2" white scar that removed some ink (see man's kneecap in image), some wear on the top edge, two small pieces of transparent tape at the upper and lower spine, and a lot of pock marks from being handled. It looks like someone tried to do some minor retouching on the top right side of the cover as I see some red marker bleeding on the other side. The back cover is relatively unscathed, other than some more pock marks, and the pieces of tape on the spine. The interior pages are in excellent shape, with off-white newsprint paper in great condition. This picto-fiction comic (or graphic novel) is rather rare, and a big part of the controversial EC Comics history. |
