..........a french artist...............
I purchased 4 artists' proof etchings from a local estate; all of which picture great artists. I thought they were so wonderfully done that I planned to frame and hang them along with all the other etchings I collect, but, alas, I am just out of space and I still have SO much more to hang! Be sure to see my other auctions tonight to see the other three etchings of Pissarro, Monet, and Degas. Note that if you purchase more than one of these etchings, the additional will ship FREE!
All of these are artists' proofs, done by Edward Ackerman in 1980. The Edward Ackerman attribution is due to that name being written in pencil on the outside of the manilla folder. I have been unable to find anything about this artist or to verify the initials as a signature of Edward Ackerman, but he is as fine an etcher as I've ever seen.
Note that the paper is more creamy colored than what is reflected in the photos, my camera took the photos with a blue tone, but these are nice and bright. They are all original and never look to be framed. I purchased them as they were housed, in a manilla folder with tissue between each piece. They are ALL just fabulous and would look GREAT all together as a collection.
This particular etching is for the great painter Pierre Bonnard, looking slightly distracted and in a rumpled suit. The artist wrote in pencil along the bottom "Young Bonnard" "AP" "EDW@80" and also the artist penciled in initials "EDW" at the bottom right of the piece.
The etching is untrimmed and is a nice, crisp printing with a good register and impression. You will be VERY pleased!
Size: Image: 4" x 6"; Total: 10" x 11 1/8"
Condition: Very good - a little narrow line of smudginess or toning along both the right and left margins, but easily framed out
History: Pierre Bonnard (3 October 1867 – 23 January 1947) was a French painter and printmaker, a founding member of Les Nabis.
Note that I combine shipping on purchases of multiple items. All fragile items are double boxed for safe and secure shipping, paper items are sent in rigid mailers or boxes and are waterproofed. 10322
