About this rug: THE HISTORY OF THE PERSIAN EMPIRE

Looking at this unique piece of persian art, you will find many motives. This design is not just a regular rug design, it is a hommage to the persian culture. Starting with the color combination:

A impressive emerald green backgrond is the perfect combination with the golden and  bronce designs. Green is the color of the prophet. Also it is the color of many of the crown juwels of Iran.

In the border, just right and left of the designs axis, the artist placed two lions holding the sword in front of a rising sun. This emblem is the heraldic figure of the last emperors dynasty: The Pahalvi Family. The lions are protecting the peacock throne, and the emperors (Shahenshah = King of Kings) crown.  Between lions and the corners of the rug, the day and the night are shown in small pictures. The main design in the corners is the Imam Reza Thom in Mashad, one of the most important pilgrims destination in Iran.

In the centerfield, many Kings and their soldiers are pictures. Also Vases and Rhytons (golden drinking mugs decorated with lions and eagles) are part of the design. You also find a illustration of the 40 column palace in Isfahan, whichs columns are reflected in water ponds in front of the palace.

This beautiful original persian rug is all hand made in the Ca. 2000`s. Each knot in this superb piece of oriental art was made by a master weaver. We list rugs as PERFECT, if they have no visible signs of wear or use, have a full high pile all over the rug, and are in SUPERB condition - even after generations of use. These are the best rugs to buy, since they have already proofed their outstanding quality. Classic oriental rugs fit perfect with all styles of furniture. Due to their non industrial production, persian handmade rugs have certain typical signs:

Real Persian rugs always have fringes. Usually they are made of cotton, silk or wool. Due to the organic materials and often used natural, mineral or herbal colors / dyes, and different batches / lots of wool, persian rugs have a phenomenon called ABRASH: This is a change or variation in the color of a rug due to differences in the wool or dye bath. The effect of abrash is subtle shading differences. In older or antique rugs, abrash occurs naturally. In new rugs, Abrash is carefully created by changing the color of the yarns to mimic a vintage look. It occurs in parallel stripes of different color within the rug. This is not a infirmity - it is a typical sign of a true handmade persian rug. Also, Persian rugs have a dark and a light side - this appears from the reflection and absorption of light falling on to the pile.
