Review by Bruce Eder Emerson, Lake & Palmer's most successful and well-realized album (after their first), and their most ambitious as a group, as well as their loudest, Brain Salad Surgery is also their most electronic sounding one. The main focus, thanks to the three-part "Karn Evil 9," is sci-fi rock, approached with a volume and vengeance that stretched the art rock audience's tolerance to its outer limit, but also managed to appeal to the metal audience in ways that little of Trilogy did. Indeed, "Karn Evil 9" is the piece and the place where Keith Emerson and his keyboards finally matched in both music and flamboyance the larger-than-life guitar sound of Jimi Hendrix. Pete Sinfield's lyrics, while not up to his best King Crimson-era standard, were better than anything the group had to work with previously, and Greg Lake pulled out all the stops on his heaviest singing voice in handling them, coming off a bit like Peter Gabriel in the process. The songs (except for the throwaway "Benny the Bouncer") are also among their best work — the group's arrangement of Sir Charles Hubert Parry's setting of William Blake's "Jerusalem" manages to be reverent yet rocking, while Emerson's adaptation of Alberto Ginastera's music in "Tocatta" outstrips even "The Barbarian" and "Knife Edge" from the first album as a distinctive and rewarding reinterpretation of a piece of serious music. Lake's "Still...You Turn Me On" is his last great ballad with the group, possessing a melody and arrangement sufficiently pretty to forgive the presence of the rhyming triplet "everyday a little sadder/a little madder/someone get me a ladder." [Shout! Factory's 2007 reissue included two bonus remixes.]

IMPORT INFORMATION: Any CD that says in the description "import" JAPANESE or otherwise is in ENGLISH as the regular Domestic ones are. The lyrics and artwork are all the same and in english. They are usually more desirable due to the superior mastering on a lot of them. REMASTERED INFORMATION: Any CD that says REMASTERED means that it is the original recordings but they have been REMASTERED. In other words they have usually taken the ORIGINAL LABEL MASTER TAPES and REMASTERED them into the digital format for FAR SUPERIOR SOUND QUALITY. A lot of the older CD's had been rushed released and they used poor quality reference masters. The newer Remasters not only benifit from the original first generation mix-down masters but the newer technology in equipment that is available recently has improved the sound quality dramatically. These are NOT re-recordings. They are the original recordings. H D C D INFORMATION: This is a format in CD mastering that improves on sound quality and adds to the band width available. Any CD that says H D C D plays on any CD player but sounds even better on a player with H D C D compatibility. I do not sell CDR's so anything you are bidding on is a regular retail CD. CHECK MY FEEDBACK if you are worried.

Shipping is based on a rate for your first disc or set, and then a flat rate for each additional disc or set in your order. A few large sets have an additional shipping charge and this is noted where ever the shipping category is given.
The first chart shows the rate for the first disc in your shipment. Find the shipping cost for the disc with the highest number shipping category in your order . Then add the rate for additional items for each additional item in your order.
For example, if your order includes 3 discs, one from shipping category 3 and two from shipping category 1, the rate for the first disc in your order is the category 3 rate, or $4.25 for Domestic First Class.
We offer a significant discount when your buy multiple items. HOWEVER, To get the shipping discounted rate for multiple items, you MUST PAY IN ONE TRANSACTION. If you are paying with PAYPAL all items MUST be paid in one Transaction.
