EONS: WHOLE POLISHED #1 QUALITY MADAGASCAR AMMONITES, 25 LBS @ $25 POUND We are the largest wholesaler of Madagascar ammonites on eBay. Our prices are the lowest of any dealer on the internet or at fossil shows. For example, at the Tucson Mineral & Fossil Show our prices were about half those of most other dealers, and 15% lower than the second-lowest priced dealer. We ship year-round from either Colorado or New Jersey and can ship most orders the next day. So why bother with a one-time annual purchase from a foreigner in Tucson for a higher price? THE AUCTION: Up for sale is a 25 pound-lot of #1 quality ammonites (also called A Grade) for $25 / pound, comprised of your choice of: Only 3" ~ 3.9" sizes (about 0.6 pounds each) The lot will weigh approximately 25 pounds (+/- 2 pounds) although the exact net weight will be determined after you’ve told me what you want per the above and we’ve packed the lot for you. The total cost will be ($25 pound x exact net weight of your lot). After your lot is prepared, I will send you an invoice for the total, so please disregard any wishful thinking that you are getting the entire 25 pounds for $25. {wink} ITEM DESCRIPTION: These 110 million year old specimens were chipped out of the entombing rock, the tough covering layer of fossilized barnacles hacked away, and then finally buffed by hand to reveal the riot of showy suture lines under a glisteny sheen. These squiggly lines are where the walls of the inner chambers (called septa) attached themselves to the main outer shell. They were not visible at the time that the animal was alive and are revealed only by careful buffing with jeweler’s rouge. Specimens with suture lines are among the most sought after by collectors. Some of these specimens exhibit faint opalescence, especially under sunlight. Ammonites first appeared in the Late Silurian (circa 400 million years ago) and endured several major extinction events, but with only a few species surviving. Each time, however, this handful would diversify into a multitude of forms. The last surviving genera went extinct along with the dinosaurs 65 million years ago in the Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction event. For more information on these fascinating animals, see this Wikipedia article. These specimens will appeal to not only fossil collectors, but also to home or office decorators, appreciators of the very old, fans of the unusual, nautical aficionados, aquarium enthusiasts, science buffs, educators, and parents who want to encourage scientific interest within their children.
