About

This

European

Antiquarian

Book

This AWESOME Antiquarian European LONG OUT OF PRINT auction catalogue lists and describes 388 Lots, ALL of which appear to be amply illustrated in beautiful colour, of a charming vintage assemblage of European Antiques, Oak & other wood Furniture and early Persian Carpets from the U2 Bass Player's Personal Collection

Items include -- lead and copper fire marks, trade / shop signs, armorial coats of arms, decoys, treen shoe snuff boxes, carved wood religious and other statuary / panels, copper utensils / jelly moulds; wood refectory and other tables, ornate chests, cupboards, bureaus, chairs / armchairs -- in varied styles and periods, among MANY others

Nations / Regions Represented -- English, Cornish, Welsh, French, Scottish, Thames Valley, Irish, Scandinavia, Flemish, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Persia, and MUCH more

WOWSERS! My many years studying and teaching in Europe allowed me to see and live with many of these olde world traditional things on a daily basis, and gave me an appreciaton for them. They have a sturdy charm and uniqueness that one does not find in most of which surrounds us in America today, the paint - ove r- it / throw - away society. In my younger days I would find really ugly wood furniture painted in white in dumpsters, but after removing 6+ layers of thicky applied paint did I discover the hidden carved oak Victorian gem hidden beneath it!

Aside from the obvious centuries old Euro treasures found herein, at the end is a large number of rare early middle eastern carpets from the collection of a well known musician -- the introduction reads --

This AWESOME reference is ideal for those who have an interest in European antiques, as a collectible, for their eternal beauty and utility -- shop owners / museum curators / appraisers / importers / students & researchers working on the European crafts of several design periods over the last several centuries -- they will find many new and unusual items -- a treasure trove of textual information as well as fine colour photographs, to add to their personal computer interactive relational database in this charmingly delightful reference tome! Many of these things may still be found at local country / estate auctions, yard and garage sales, as well as flea markets just about anywhere, and this fine reference may just help you identify and evaluate some of your finds.

A MUST HAVE reference for collectors / museum curators / dealers / appraisers / and for researchers / students of European Antiques delving into the traditional crafts, formats and media of a wide selection of European antiques which one finds frequently these days at specialty shops, country / estate auctions and flea markets -- a fine addition to your personal Euro antiques reference library -- or as a gift for a friend. An import in virtually like new condition.
