EXCELLENT COMPLETE ANTIQUE AFSHAR FLATWEAVE SALT BAG.

ANTIQUE PERSIAN TRIBAL SALT BAG, Southeastern Persia, Kerman region, Afshar or Baluch, circa: 1900, and in excellent overall condition for the collector. The exact size is: 21" x 24" (53 x 61 cm). These types are difficult at best to attribute as both the Baluch and Afshars of Kerman weave these types of salt bags using this flat-weave composition. I am leaning more toward an Afshar origin for this one based on the lighter color palette and the fineness of the natural ivory wool warps and how they are braided together and finished off with bits of dyed wool. This particular specimen comes fresh to the market with only minor corner nicks from ethnographic camp and field use (see close up photos). It has all wool construction with 100% natural dyes. It still retains its original back and braided warp bundles at the sides of the neck.
