This auction features an EXTREMELY RARE five volume set of "Benson's Commentary", dated 1846. I believe this may be a first edition but am not positive. They were published by George Lane & Levi Scott in New York, Joseph Longking, Printer. All volumes have minimal neat handwritten notes (they are lists of the books of the  Bible that are in that particular volume) on a blank page at the front of the book, nothing distracting from the book or it's usefulness/value. The books and their condition are as follows:

1. Genesis to the Second Book of Samuel. This first volume shows some use but is very good for its age.  The spine has a little damage and the boards show shelfwear. The binding is still tight and I don't find any loose pages. This is altogether an amazing book for 162 years old!  953 pgs.
2. First Book of Kings to Proverbs.  This second volume is in essentially the same condition as the first, although a few pages appear to have gotten wet at some point. They are all still very readable. 1154 pages.
3. Ecclesiastes to Malachi. This third volume is probably in the best condition of all, but it very much the same as the first two. Tight binding, age-related page discoloration, etc. 1088 pages.
4. Matthew to the Acts of the Apostles. This one is rough on the outside...missing the spine panel, both front and back boards are present and in fairly good condition but have been taped onto the book. The pages are still in sections and this could probably be professionally repaired with good results. 859 pages.
5. Romans to the Revelation. (This one is dated 1847...guess it took him a full year to write the other four volumes and this one had to wait!) The spine is damaged and the front and back boards have come loose. Once again, the pages are intact and this could be professionally repaired. Standard conditions for age.
