The species pterocarpus indicus produces lumber that trades under the common name "narra". Narra is a nice red-brown color and its texture is not unusual for the pterocarpus genus, which contains padauk and kiiat. Its interlocked grain produces ribbon stripe figure in some quartersawn pieces. Indicus is probably better known for the burl it produces. This burl trades as amboyna burl and it's intense figure and deep crimson color are striking. Amboyna burl is unique and rare.
