Description In the early 1940s, when Charles Eames was working on MGM set designs, he would return to the small apartment where he and his wife, Ray—using thin sheets of wood veneer and bicycle pumps as compressors—were experimenting with wood-molding techniques that would have profound effects on the world of design. Their discoveries led to a commission from the U.S. Navy in 1942 to develop molded plywood splints, stretchers, and glider shells, the precursors of many revered designs—including this plywood side chair. Designed to fit the contours of the human body, it’s comfortable, practical, and lightweight. Boldly innovative when it was introduced in 1946, this chair was immediately acclaimed, and now it's back for another 50-year run. This chair is slightly used but is in excellent condition.
