You are bidding on a Ludwig & Ludwig snare drum from the early 1900s.This drum is in good overall condition, and has some really interesting features. Here are the details:
The mahogany plied shell measures 12 x 16",with 3 maple reinforcement rings on the interior. The shell is in round and solid, but there are a few spotts where the reinforcement rings have separated from the inner ply.No big deal, and an easy fix. Also on the interior is what appears to be a Ludwig factory sticker highlighting Ludwigs all-metal separate tension snare drums along with a listing of some bands and orchestras that used them.Very unique! The exterior of the shell is in great shape, and will clean up nicely.
There are 8 full length tube lugs, along with single flanged hoops, original tension rods, and solid clips. The "patent applied for" strainer assembly and butt plate appear to have been changed at one time, leaving 2 small holes underneath each part.Period correct, and work great.Has a plastic vent hole grommet.
Calf skin heads top and bottom, with an interesting writing on the bottom head.Heres what it says:J L Oconnell,2310 1st st.,Moundsville,WV,Bought Dec. 21,1917.Must have been the original owner,as the heads appear original.Overall,a nice period drum for the collector, offered at NO RESERVE,so bid early & often!
