This is an intriguing piece of Delft in that I can find no record of the makers mark I am guessing it might be from one of the many smaller factories that sprung up in Holland during the late 1700's to early 1800's. During this period makers marks tended to consist of initials only which is consistant with this piece.The vase would have been part of a five or six piece garniture set. Condition is superb considering age. There are the usual factory blips and glaze slip typical in early pieces as seen on the photos. There is a tiny glaze chip to the top. There is no crazing that I can see.
Size is 7" high and 4" across. The hand painting shows the typical transition period when the Dutch artists began to stop copying oriental motifs and started to incorporate everyday Dutch scenes. Hence this piece has both the oriental and Dutch decoration which further helps us date it to late 18th to early 19th century. Also, the unknown factory mark is typical of this era. Highly recommended rare piece for the serious collector and offered with no reserve. However, I will end listing early if no early bids.
