Early Australia cast Iron Gecko lizard ornament

A fantastic find! A solid cast iron gecko- clearly many years old, and most likely- given the subject- a locally made item?

I haven’t seen this fellow before- he’s an impressive 12 inches (31cm) in total length, and was probably cast as a garden ornament for nearby the doorway, pond or other featured area around the home. No makers marks to the item make dating and placing the item difficult- but I would have a ‘guesstimate’ this was cast around 1920-50?

As you can see an original green paint has weathered and is flaking badly as shown. This gives a terrific patina and has largely protected the item down the years. A little surface rust only otherwise and this fellow presents in fine condition. A fine heavy piece that would look sensational basking in the sun on a rock- or indeed by the door, pond etc!
