Presented for auction is a spectacular early Historical Staffordshire dinner plate.  This is from the William Penn's Treaty series by Thomas Godwin.  For years, Staffordshire historians believed this pattern to be made by Thomas Green (maker's initials TG always appear in the mark) but now it is commonly thought that the make was actually Thomas Godwin which would date it to circa 1809-1834.  This US historical views were produced in England but made of export to the US marked.  This plate is made of light body earthenware and features a gently scalloped rim.  It measures a generous 10 3/4 inches in diameter.  There is typical age crazing, a tiny glaze nibble to the underside table/foot rim and a little glaze wear to the outer rim.  It displays beautifully and the wear is really minor.  No chips or cracks.  Different shapes in this pattern have different views usually of William Penn bartering or negotiating with the indians.  The figures are large and detailed and this plate would be cherished by any collector.
