The difference between the showerheads in this posting and the one(s) you have in your home is the FLOW RATE. The best way to compare showerheads is by reading the flow rate, in gallons per minute (gpm), which is usually stamped on the showerhead. Most new showerheads flow at 2.5 gpm. Pre-1994 showerheads could range from 3-7 gpm.
When you switch out your old showerhead, your water savings is simply the difference in the flow rates. Compared to 2.5 gpm, by selecting a new 1.5 gpm you will automatically cut your shower water usage by 40%.
No one will argue against the benefit of saving money on water and the energy to heat the water. The next question is: will I get a great shower?
The answer is: try it and you will like it, guaranteed. Will you notice a difference? Yes - The water throughput is lower than what you are used to (especially if you have a really old showerhead). But the design of this head will make it feel much more powerful and encompassing than what you would expect from using much less water. We know you will like it. We are so sure we will not get returns, that we have extended the return policy to 30 days (for any reason).
What does it take to change a showerhead? Do I need a plumber? - ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Most can be removed with a twist of your hand... some may need a gentle nudge with some pliers. New Showerheads can simply be twisted right back on to your standard 1/2" threaded shower arms. Two or three wraps of teflon tape around the threads will help prevent any drips, but even that is not usually necessary.
How much money will this showerhead save me?
Here’s an example for a family of 4 who take 10 minute daily showers:
2.5 gpm showerhead - Gallons per day – 100
1.5 gpm Earth Massage - Gallons per day – 60
That is an immediate 40% reduction in shower water use. And guess what? That is mostly hot water. Typical cost for water and sewer nationwide is $.0089 per gallon. Saving 40 gallons per day equates to $129.00 per year on your water and sewer bills. Energy savings is estimated at 2-3 times that of water and sewer.
That could lead to a total savings of over $300 per year.
