Eastern Airlines called their DC-3's "The Great Silver Fleet" because they left their planes unpainted and polished the aluminum skin to a high gloss, making them look like they were sculpted out of silver. They were also the first commercial planes with soundproofed passenger sections, a welcome relief on the long flights from New York to Miami.
Porcelain enameled signs have been said to be a true visual reflection of the times. When used for advertising, the signs gave a brilliant permanence to the product. Today, these advertising signs are a collectible artform.
Our porcelain enameled signs are made up of authentic reproductions utilizing the same process popularized in the early 1900's. The colors are not paints but finely ground glass crystals which, when kiln fired at 1350 degrees F, fuse to the heavy steel plate. Each color is applied and fired seperately, creating a durable, lustrous and rust resistant product.
Every porcelain enameled sign that we sell is handcrafted in the USA and comes to you BRAND NEW, and carefully packaged for your enjoyment. Riveted holes in every corner make for easy hanging. This porcelain enameled sign measures 11.5" diameter. |
