Easton Press: Charles Darwin: The Origin of Species

Easton Press FULL leather top-of-the-line edition of Charles Darwin's "The Origin of Species By Means of Natural Selection or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life," Illustrated  with Wood Engravings by Paul Landacre, a Limited edition, one the 100 GREATEST BOOKS EVER WRITTEN series, published in 1976. Bound in a Most Handsome black Moroccan cowhide, the book has brown French moire silk endleaves, satin book marker, hubbed spines, 22 kt. gold gilding on three edges---in FINE condition. Charles Darwin, who lived from 1809-1882, was born in SHREWSBURY, ENGLAND. He was educated at EDINBURGH University and CHRIST'S CHURCH, CAMBRIDGE University. Darwin was timid, almost backward, a medical student who could not stand the sight of an operation, a clerical student who cared more for snipe shooting than for the scriptures. However, Darwin convinced his medical father to allow him to join the H.M.S. BEAGLE, a tiny research vessel which was sailing for South America in 1831. Darwin returned and published his findings. Darwin married his cousin, Emma Wedgwood--of ceramic fame--and they were the loving parents of 10 children! Darwin studied barnacles for eight years and went on research voyages all over the PACIFIC world, including NEW ZEALAND and AUSTRALIA. His "Origin of the Species" is the most important scientific book of the 19th century and 'perhaps' the greatest scientific treatise of all time! The impact of his theory of "Evolution"---the gradual evolving of man from an ape-like primate ancestor was to cause a revolution in philosophy, religion, ethics, sociology, politics--and even in the arts. Yet this humble, charming, honest, and curious man was very much of his times, the age of VICTORIAN ENGLAND---even though Pope Pius IX called Darwin's ideas "the corruption of the century" and George Bernard Shaw blamed WORLD WAR I on "Neo-Darwinism in Politics." Many even blamed Darwin for the ideas that led Hitler and his band of pseudo-scientific Nazis to unscientific eugenics and racism under the guise of "social Dawinism." FOLKS, this is a MAGNIFICENT volume. Buyer pays $6.00 media or $8.50 priority shipping or actual charges world-wide. Seller WILL combine multiple bids for postal savings. Seller accepts money orders, cashier's checks, PayPal, or personal checks---held until check clears bank---or immediate shipment with 50 positive feedbacks on Ebay.
