The Bells and Other Poems, by Edgar Allan Poe, Published by Hodder and Stoughton, no date, 1912, first edition thus. This book is not dated; reference materials indicate that it was published in 1912. These poems were first-published in the 1800's by Poe; the book offered here is the first edition with these illustrations. It measures 11 1/4" x 9" and is unpaginated, approximately 150 text pages plus twenty-eight illustration pages. The book is in Near Fine condition with some gentle wear to the binding and with a bookstore's small label at the bottom spine corner of the rear endpaper; the entire contents are in solid Fine condition. This book was published without a dust jacket. There are twenty-eight, beautiful, full-page, color illustrations by Edmund Dulac. They all are in virtually perfect condition, and they are blank on the reverse. All captioned tissue guards are present. Dulac also has done several, smaller, halftone illustrations to introduce certain poems (e.g., please see image #5 below). The endpapers are decorated in gilt (please see image #6 for a fragment), and the front board and spine have gilt lettering and embossed decoration by Dulac; image #7 below is the front board. The text is forty-six poems by Poe (e.g., The Bells, Annabel Lee, The Raven, Lenore, Tammerlane, etc.). There is no former owner's bookplate inside, no writing inside, no foxing, and there are no loose pages.
