The sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald in Lake Superior on November 10, 1975  is a subject that has captured the minds and imagination of people from throughout the world.

The mysteries that surround the tragedy on that cold, windy November night remain to this day.

Collectors, writers, sailors, historians, artists and educators and many other people from all walks of life have become intrigued about this famous ship and its fate.

Numerous books, videos and all kinds of  replicas have been produced regarding the subject.  In addition, two major songs were written about the ship soon after the tragedy. Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" and Dr. Charlie Frederick's "Twenty-Nine More Men".

Truly, the "Fitz" story has generated tremendous interest to this very day.

The lyrics to the song "Twenty-Nine More Men" have been published in a recent book entitled "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" written by Canadian author Elle Andra-Warner of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.  The book is published by Altitude Publishing, Canada.  It was released in December, 2006

The same book will be re-issued in the United States very soon!

Watch for it!

Gordon Lightfoot's song about the sinking of the Fitzgerald became a classic.  A second song, "Twenty-Nine More Men", written and sung by Dr. Charlie Frederick, received significant air play across the country as well.

A radio station, AM 1500, in Minneapolis recently called Dr. Frederick to discuss his song. These types of events happen alot because the the subject of the Fitzgerald seems to emerge every November 10th. Such was the case this past November 10th 2008!

Frederick, a professor at the University of Minnesota-Duluth at the time, began writing the song "Twenty-Nine More Men" on the very evening the Fitzgerald sank in Lake Superior. Over the following days while the search was underway to find the Edmund Fitzgerald, Charlie Frederick completed his song.

"Twenty-Nine More Men"recounts the news bulletins that aired on local television stations in Duluth, Minnesota. The song portrays the fate of the 29 men and the violent nature of Great Lakes storms. Frederick's country/western song has received much attention over the years inasmuch as it was written and performed  by one close to the actual events as they unfolded.

When Frederick's song was first released, a Duluth newspaper wrote a feature news article about the song and Charlie Frederick.  In addition, book authors and  numerous family members wrote to Charlie to get personalized copies of the record.  Over these many years, Frederick's song still sells as a collector's item.

The song was included in an album produced by Archie Green, a famed historian who wrote many books about the history of country music and Appalachian Folklore.  Archie Green's extensive collection was eventually donated to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Frederick is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

This cd consists of 12-13 songs all having to do with the Edmund Fitzgerald.  The song "Twenty-Nine More Men" is the only song on the album that is different from the style developed by Gordon Lightfoot.  There have been many song renditions done about this famous ship.

Charlie Frederick's song is the only one on the album that is done in a strictly country music flavor.
