The previous owner bought this rare historical item in the late fifties on a flea-market in Amsterdam, Holland, Europe. I removed the picture from the broken frame and took a closer look of this beautiful Edward Curtis photo.
I am not an expert at all but to me the picture looks like a photogravure.Below the picture I can read: "From Copyright Photograph 1914 by E.S.Curtis, KEKUHTLALA-KOEKSOTENOK"
Below the right lower corner there is a signature in black-blue-grayish color. (Signature of Edward Curtis?) I tried to get a a very close picture of the signature. The signature appears to be handwritten. For strange reasons the color looks much more blue on the close-up picture than it actually is.Fact is: The color is different from the other sepia tone color.
The picture appears that it came from a book which you can see at the backside. Also the paper has some kind of watermark which was quiet difficult to show on a picture.I can see the watermark words: "....ER ZONEN" and right under it: "....OLLAND"
As I was at the first sight not aware of this probably very valuable photo I stupidly attached the photogravure with tape to the black paper frame to hold it in place...
The size of the photo is approx. 12 1/2 x 9 1/2 inch.
Condition:Good condition except a minor stain in the upper left corner of the white border area.
Yes, I thought about it to get a Certificate of Authenticity. But as this is not possible in switzerland and is very pricey to get one overseas I leave this up to you. As stated: A return for any reason for a full refund is offered. Anyway: I never had any signed item returned in the past. Please check my feedback.
The photo comes without any frame, glass etc......
