Up for auction is "Edward Weston: Color Photography" Published by Center for Creative Photography, University of Arizona ~ Copyright, 1986 by Arizona Board of Regents ~ ISBN: 0-938262-15-7 ~ Preface by James Enyeart ~ "Edward Weston: Color Photography" by Terrence Pitts ~ "Color as Form" by Edward Weston ~ Comments by Nancy Newhall ~ This superb book measures 9-1/4" x 10" and contains 64 pages with 32 color reproductions and 4 duotone plates ~ from the back cover.................... Towards the end of his career as a photographer, Edward Weston was asked to do a scenic portrait of Monterey Bay for the Eastman Kodak Company's advertising department. To this, he replied, "I have never been interested in color..... But I have such a love of Point Lobos that I would hate to see it murdered in color by an outsider." With these words, Weston set out to explore the expressive qualities of color photography. Within weeks of working in color, Weston wrote to Dr. George L. Waters of the Eastman Kodak Company, "Several color photographs equal my best in black-and-white or, at least, seem to in my first enthusiasm." Terence Pitts, in his essay, describes Weston's last period as a working photographer in the late 1940's and his involvement in color photography as an art form. Written from a historical perspective, Pitt's essay covers the relationship between Weston and the Eastman Kodak Company in the advent of color film and also reveals Weston's inexhaustible energy as an experimenting artist. This book offers art historians, students, and photography aficionados a chance to see a major American black-and-white photographer's rarely known work in color; to read Weston's original essay, published in 1953, "Color as Form"; and to gain insight into the artist's work through a personal observation written by Nancy Newhall. Thirty-two images have been selected from approximately sixty transparencies in the Edward Weston Archive of the Center for Creative Photography by Terence Pitts and Stuart Alexander for this book................. The overall condition of the book is very good. The pictorial (glossy) stiff-paper wrappers, show some very light surface scuffs. The top right corner tip shows a 1/4" bump. The interior pages are very clean, unmarked and tight. The color reproductions are superb....... Please checkout my other books starting at just $4.95.... I will always combine multiple items to save my customers on shipping charges... Thanks for Looking.
